Some of the deep fried goodness from the Texas State Fair

    Hi all,

Got around to posting some pics from a day at the fair. For those who may not know the Texas State Fair has contests each year for the latest and greatest deep fried food. In the past some of the have been deep fried butter, peaches & cream, beer (failed), and deep fried cookie dough, Amy's favorite (a bit like biting into a like electric eel). Some of the noteworthy entries this year were deep fried pineapple upside down cake (major yum) and bubblegum.

Let's start it off right with a cholesterol nightmare, chicken fried bacon -

    A classic -

Another to make cardiologist shudder -

Definitely one of the weirder one -

A couple of Amy and my favorites. I love the deep fried upside down pineapple cake and the butter. The cookie dough is Amy's -

The pineapple. Like I said, major yum -

Another of my favorites, peaches and cream -

Some of the old standards -

Some of the other fair stuff. Some BBQ. Got to love BBQ bologna -

Standard attraction is the butter sculpture. These are life size -

And one of the reasons we go to the fair, rock and roll bagpipes, the Kildares ( http://www.killdares.com/ )-

Even saw Hamish at the fair. or at least a hamish -

Some of that stuff sounds disgusting, but one of these days I want to try them just so I can say I have!

I don't know what it is about breading and frying stuff, but it makes everything taste good.

Question... those numbers after the items on the signs. Are those prices?! Twelve bucks for a fried peanut butter, jelly, and banana sandwich? Do people really pay that?

Note quite that bad. That is the price in tickets. Fifty cents each so divide them in half.

Except for corny dogs, I stayed away from the fried stuff.

    Love the Killdares.
