Funny Ambiguities
Another thread (plural of "you") got me thinking about how certain words in a particular language can have two or three or more meanings, like how "funny," can mean "humorous," "strange," "weird," or even "crazy" (insane) as in "funny farm." Of course a lot of "funny" (in the sense of humorous) things are precisely the result of playing on such linguistic ambiguities. Is there such a term in Gaelic covering all these ambiguous meanings of "funny" in English? One reason I ask is that we live on a "funny farm" which includes most all of those Angloistically ambiguous meanings. Thanks!!!
