Ebay find
I just bought a Montrose Doublet off evil-bay.

A great find in excellent condition.
I will now have to buy a jabot and cuffs set which will probably cost me more than the doublet did!

Re: Ebay find
Hi BCAC,
Heritage of Scotland sell jabot and cuff sets, but I have found that cuffs get in the way - especially when eating.
Before buying a set you could try making your own from net curtain fabric. One metre of fabric should be more than enough. And of course they make a great variety of hems and designs.

Thanks Chas.
Good idea (I'm not very handy with a needle, though!).

With a bit of ingenuity, you don't have to stitch at all. One strip tied like a tie and then tucked into the shirt. A second piece (more rectangular), folded concertina like and tucked 1/3 in, leaving 2/3s hanging out the front.
That's what I did the first time. I was the only one wearing a jabot and I don't think anyone noticed.
The thing is, the commercially made ones are really not value for money. It is worthwhile looking out for a good piece of antique lace and getting a local seamstress to make you one.

Re: Ebay find
BCAC- Readers;
For the jabot- find a ladies(and a female to buy it!) long white silk scarf-very sheer sort. Then wrap it twice(start from the center of the fabrick, placed at the throat, around to the back, cross & the two ends hanging in front). The make the first motion in the series you use to tie a sneaker. Square it off, one fabrick lenght over the other-your done. If you can find fabrick glue, glue a lenght of lace from a sewing store, on each end, and have just the ends peeping out a lower button hole-it was the fashion when the coat became 'Regulation" for kilt wearers.
As to the cuffs, use the same bit of lace you bought for the jabot. Measure your wrists WITH the shirt on, from cuff link to cuff link, plus 1/2 inch. Put a line of fabrick glue at each lace end, let dry, then take a box cutter knife & CAREFULLY cut a button hole in each end. Then, when the shirt is 1st put on, place the lace under the cuff link, thread the link thru the cuff & add button the lace to the lower end of the link & close. Your done. And when you eat, tuck the lace back under the coat cuff, that is why the sleeves are/were/ should be tight-aside from fashion, it keeps the coat cuff out of the soups!
Oh, and a very good purchase!

Re: Ebay find
I too have a Montrose Doublet that I got from ebay a few years ago, congratulations I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine. As for the Jabot and cuffs I purchased mine from Lady Chrystel, here is the link:

I think they are a wonderful set and Lady Chrysel was just perfect to work with.
