Eccentricity?
In a conversation with a co-worker today I heard words to the effect that "Since good, old, what's-his-name retired, you are probably the most eccentric person in the office!"
Now, I have nothing against eccentricity (except in rolling stock) but I was somewhat taken aback to be described so. I decided to take inventory of my unconventional points to see if I could arrive at an objective analysis. Points I do NOT have in common with my co-workers today:
- My watch is in my waistcoat pocket, not on my wrist;
- I wear a hat, a nice one. Usually a Stetson fedora, but today a Harris tweed flat cap;
- The pens (two, with different, odd shades of ink) in my pocket are Parker "51" fountain pens;
- I play the pipes during my lunch breaks;
- Obviously,I'm known to wear kilts on occasion.
Apparently, the sum of my unconventional preferences is eccentricity!

'A damned ill-conditioned sort of an ape. It had a can of ale at every pot-house on the road, and is reeling drunk. "
