    Cantle cost

    Rabble,
I am thinking of replacing the cantle on my formal sporran. Is pewter a desirable material? What is an average cost for just the cantle?

Those Elegant Scotland cantles are very nice!

I can't see where it says where those cantles are made, or out of what.

I myself love vintage things. Here are four vintage cantles I picked up on Ebay.

    Clockwise from upper left:

    1) cast solid German Silver cantle probably from the c1920-1940 period

    2) cantle fabricated from sheet German Silver and then engraved, the typical c1840-1900 style

    3) rim, knobs, and badge in German Silver, with leather front, in a style popular from c1840 through the 1940s

    4) 1953 MOD "Culloden" cantle, brass

I took the dragon cantle off the modern horsehair sporran it had been stuck on, and put it on a reproduction of a c1840-1910 style goathair sporran (also got on Ebay)

I sent the MOD cantle to Artificer, who made a lovely 18th century style body for it

    The things being worn
