    Didn't even occur to me

I was kilted this past weekend at a music festival in Madison, WI. I camped at a a group site and in between the bands performing I participated in some informal "jams" (just a bunch of folk all playing music together for the sake of playing)

I am really not much of a musician, but other people who were present during the jam sessions came up to me and struck up conversations later in the day. Since I didn't feel that I stood out musically, I wondered what drew them to me.

Oh yeah, I was wearing a kilt. It's just a natural conversation starter. I met some really cool people with whom I share a love of bluegrass music and I got to know them better than I might have if I had been wearing trousers.

What genre of music, if I may ask?

Yes wear a kilt and expect to be approached, and to chat with strangers, and make new friends.

I think the formula is something like

    kilt + beer = friends

Bluegrass, folk and traditional music of the "Hills" tend to bring people together, and I've always thought, give sense of trust and innocence to a crowd. To "jam" as you did, gives unity to strangers and confirms that music soothes the savage beast. The kilt didn't hurt but provided an "IN" for your winning personality.

Yes sometimes when you are out and about you forget that you are wearing a kilt. I was out all day yesterday when a stranger inquired about the kilt I was wearing. My daughter, who was with me, said that she forgot I was wearing a kilt because I wear it all the time. (Mostly around the house though)

Another thought -want to meet some new friends? Take your pants off!
