    Glensia kiltmakers?

I just received a kilt from Tartan4less. See this thread.

The gentleman with whom I corresponded informed me that the kilt had been made by Glensia kiltmakers. Is anyone familiar with them?

It's my understanding that kiltmaking in Scotland is very much a cottage industry, so it's my feeling that the name is not wholly indicative of quality. There is no label on the kilt itself.

Perhaps you mean Glenisla Kilts located in Lanarkshire.

My cursory google search yielded the same.

I had done a search here on Xmarks that didn't return any results, so I thought I'd ask the rabble.

Yes. They are well established. They won the army contract a few years back. Most of the kilt shops in Scotland will use them for machine sewn options. Their kilts don't use stabilisers but the bonding at pleating stage and machine stitching makes them quite solid anyway.

I own 3 of their kilts personally and now supply them for machine stitched kilt options. Approximately half of my customers will opt for machine sewn and I stay in touch with them. All are so far happy with their kilts. On a business level, they are excellent to deal with.

    KiltFitz,
Great info. Thanks. I did note the lack of stabilsers, but the material doesn't appear to stretch like another kilt I have. I expect I will have a better idea once I wear it for a day.

Obviously, nothing's quite as good as a fully handsewn, especially if you want an heirloom kilt (they can't really be re-made easily) but that's where the price difference and lead time will come in.
