A different kind of kilt check

I just attended a wedding.

I don't wear the kilt often, but it's my usual dressy attire. For this wedding, the bride requested that I wear trousers. No big deal.

I did however wear a nice Royal Stewart waistcoat with a black suit. No fewer than three people looked at me, looked down, looked at me quizzically and said, "Oh, trousers?"

I'm like that, except that I've not owned a suit for many years. I don't have a suit option.

I'd have to wear a tweed jacket and slacks, if not Highland Dress.

I can't remember a bride out here requesting that the guests dress in a certain way.

But hey, it's California.

I think it turned out pretty well. You made the bride happy on her special day. You wore some tartan to add a bit of color to your attire. And, you had those who knew you show their surprise and disappointment that they didn't see the kilt. Three check marks if you ask me.

Of course, you could have worn tartan trews if you had a pair, but you probably don't.

When attending weddings one should never look better than the bride

If I look better than the Bride because of my kilt the Groom's got a big problem!

I did not own a kilt when I got my married. I wore a frock coat, top hat, striped trousers, and fancy vest with great-great grandfather's walking stick.

However, at my bride's request, the official marrying us wore his kilt.
