Red Ghillie Brogue Laces

Yes I've seen it before. One of my favorite pipers wears them: Gordon Walker. I know there are some pictures of him on xmarks. Maybe someone else can post a pic for you. Also John Burgess wore them...another really awesome player.

Yes, P/M Gordon Walker and P/M John D. Burgess both wear red laces in their ghillie brogues, the latter with the addition of silver buckles, which is quite smart. I have seen them worn only for formal occassions, and with that being said, I would advise wearing the red laces strictly for Highland evening attire. The look is indeed very handsome, yet worn correctly with tartan or diced hose would be most ideal-no white, or I would even go so far as to argue, even solid colored hose, to be worn with the red laces. Surely this ideal of mine is based solely upon how Burgess and Walker have worn them, which in my opinion, is the correct and most elegant way. Unsure where you can get them. Note the photo below, and I know there is one of Gordon Walker wearing the red laces, posted somewhere on XMTS.

Great question! Yes, without making the brogues look gaudy or sloppy. I own several pairs of patent leather buckle brogues and they affix by means of a snap button, with a small piece of patent leather passign through the buckle, then that 'snapping' onto the toe portion of the brogue. I would assume there is a similar style of this design for certain ghillie brogues, yet I have never seen them on the market. It always amazes me to see gentlemen who wear Highland attire correctly, more specifically, Highland evening attire, and have maybe several items...be it a particular waist buckle design, doublet design, hose design, shoe design, etc...and one has no idea where he could have purchased the said item! I have come to think that maybe many of these items are bespoke and/or perhaps purchased from wee Highland attire shops scattered throughout Scotland, that do not have a website, or sell to overseas customers, unless they are in Scotland! I often wonder how many incredible Highland accroutements are out there, at these wee shops, waiting to be discovered by the likes of me! Hahaha! I've been to many, yet I know there are loads more. Where did Pipe Major Burgess have his Highland evening attire made? How and where did he acquire his accessories? I may never know! LOL!
