ghillie brogues' laces
Do you guys have a special technique/tip to lace them, so the laces do not fall down the leg after a couple steps?
I tried lacing mine per the instructions:
1. turn the laces on themselves 3-6 times
2. lace them upwards and thru the back of the calf
3. then tighten and tie them on front of the calves.
I no more take a couple of steps and whole nice looking assembly collapses and falls down the calf.
Do you guya affix them to the hose somehow?
What am I missing?

Perhaps you're lacing too high up your calves.
I wrap my ghillie laces around my ankles which certainly is a popular & practical method. Also, I shortened the laces so it's not necessary to wrap multiple times.
Mine never fall down, though occasionally a knot comes undone.

I do the full 6 turns in the front, then 2 in the back. I tie to the outside, rather than the front. therefore, one tie wraps around again. The whole thing should not be more than 2-3 inches above the ankle. That maybe where you are having your problem. Too high and gravity & motion will defeat you. I have worn mine all day with no slipage.

Take a look at this vidio for an example of tieing ghillie broques

They're gillies, not Roman sandals. Mine never fall down, because they're never that high to begin with; right over the top of my ankle bones.

Buckskin got it spot on, and the link was excellent as well!
I agree that you've probably been tying your laces too high - as PiobBear said, "they're ghillies, not Roman sandals"! Finally, tie them at the sides. Tying at the front is not right at all.

Right. You don't want to tie them too high - you don't want the Conan the Barbarian look. It's also important to tie them tightly, or they will slip down. But they can't go anywhere if they're just up on your ankle, instead of all the way up your calf.
And I've found the bulkier hose hold the laces in place better, but that's a minor thing.
I won't weigh in on the tie in the front versus tie on the side thing. That's the great ghillie question of our age. It's like "boxers or briefs." Your preference.

that might have been it.
I wasnt fashioning them as high as roman sandals, but they were about 5-6 inches above the ankles.
I'll give them a try lower as indicated, thanks guys

Yes, thank you for asking about the laces and for posting that link! I'm hoping to eventually get some of these for my hubby and we had no idea how to lace them. I've bookmarked that site for future reference!
