I have been thinking how to reply here, to give guidance rather than crushing the new found enthusiasm. Its all a question of degree and whilst striped shirts do fit in with the traditional Highland look, although perhaps not so often seen, it is the "volume" of colour in the shirt, particularly with stripes-----not so much the tie------that makes the look work, or not and for me I think the shirt in the picture is more than a tad too loud. The tie is perfect for almost any event up to smart( not formal though) that you can think of.
