Perhaps you could look into really simple sporrans.
My experience....I had an inexpensive three-tassel sporran that I bought off of ebay. The first week those tassels about drove me crazy...bonk, bonk on the sporran as I walked. I finally got used to it, but I never was totally comfortable with the tassels. About a year later one of the tassels fell off, leaving just the string. Well, that looked dumb, and I noticed that the sporrans flap covered where the tassels were attached, so I just cut the three strings off. Voila...utterly simple, plain black sporran.
I like it.
Here's the functional equivalent....couple of links on ebay:

A little bit fancier, but still...no tassels. Simple.

Look into the Buzz Kidder sporrans like this one.

I have the Country sporran in brown and I like it though I wish the little medallion were bronze or brass instead of pewter. But aside from that, it's great. If you like that you cold contact Buzz and ask to get one special with no ornamentation AT ALL...the ultimate in simplicity.
And the other option? Buy a Freedom kilt and order it with a mess of pockets. Ditto for a Utilikilt.
with My x-kilt I use a black, ten-dollar Jansport bum bag/fanny pack, slung on the frontside. It's cheap, everybody knows what it is, and it works great.
