    Critique my summer kilt wear

There has been some discussion recently of the adaptability and versatility of the kilt. With that in mind, I thought I would share with you my day wear today, on a summer day in Virginia.

The kilt is USA Kilt semi-trad which is well suited with its P/V material for the hot humid weather in the southern USA. Tartan is Stewart black. Cotton kilt hose from Sock Dreams worn here with self tie garters from the STM. Clarks desert boots for footwear. Sporran is nylon from Stillwater kilts. I love polo’s and this color picks up a thin blue line in the tartan. Too hot for a wool balmoral, so this broken in straw hat keeps the sun off and the head cool.

    What do you think?

Kilt hose in the Virginia summer - you are a brave man sir. Gotta be toasty.

Looking good. I don't think the hat and shoes are my cup o' tea but that's just my personal taste. I'm going to a Scottish festival tomorrow and thought for a moment if I should wear my new Ryan Ross bonnet but at 87F I'll skip it and wear… wait for it… a flat cap!!!

Looks just fine to me. I also like wearing polos with my kilts, and love my Nightstalker. The only hat I will wear when kilted is my Tilly T3, which looks similar to your hat. My wife knits me garters and I like them more than standard tartan flashes.

I gotta ask though... are you a fan of Billy "White Shoes" Johnson? I don't dig on white shoes, but somehow, those really work with your rig.

I think that's just the light in here..

(that is the punchline to a joke unrelated to kilts, but)
I assume those are tan desert boots, not white bucks.

Looking good! I'm not a fan of polos, myself, but they certainly work for you. I'm also not a fan of wearing the kilt without hose, so I applaud you for sticking with them even in the summer swelter.

I actually have a pair of the same hose, and they're actually quite cool.

Sharp sir, sharp! I have no idea how hot it is in your neck of the woods, so to my eyes you have adapted to conditions whilst keeping to the Scots kilted theme-------and still look smart.

Ern, that's pretty much how I dress when it's redders. I burn like a lobster so find the larger brimmed hat an advantage.

Looks good, Mael. I often wear a simple polo shirt with the kilt in the warmer months. I don't have a hat such as yours, but I see people wearing similar hats often at Highland Games down here in the summer - very effective for keeping the sun off your face, which can be a necessity.

Only thing I might suggest is that your embossed belt and buckle are a tad fancy for the otherwise simple/casual statement you are making. So a plainer belt might be a good choice - or I actually find it cooler to wear no belt at all. You don't need one, and without a belt it seems to me that everything feels less restricted, which is a bonus in high temps.

But that's just a minor suggestion, mostly because you asked for critiques. Really, you are doing quite well!
