Re: Scotland Shut Down By Icy 165mph Blasts
All is well here in Lochaber, power back on, fallen trees to clear, some people with damage to buildings, landslides, a few lorries on their sides, but as far as I am aware, no serious injuries, and as always in this sort of circumstance, many have worked well above and beyond the call of duty. As I arrived home at 0330 on Thursday morning I slept right through it all!

Jock's report is basically the same as my relatives, who live in Kingussie, Inverness-shire. I spoke with my great-uncle via Skype not too long ago - they have their power back on now too. I can't imagine such ferocious winds, as I have never experienced winds that severe, however, my great-uncle did say, "aww well, it's good Scottish weather, so what can you do?" I cracked up with that response! Typical Highland humour, I suppose.
I'm glad everyone is safe and sound...stay warm over there! int:

Very glad to hear all of the good reports.
If we had that kind of wind here, we would be clearing downed trees for weeks.
Here is a link to a funny, short clip posted on youtube:

Maybe this is the trampoline Jordan was referring to in his friend's yard. Guys reaction on the video is priceless and the clip does show the great Scottish weather.

Re: Scotland Shut Down By Icy 165mph Blasts
Thanks for your concern, but it has been very much business as usual here. I was out driving as normal during Thursday's rain and winds.
A few branches of my pine tree broken off by the high wind but my Christmas lights stayed attached to the tree.
The storm seems to have brought milder air with it. The snow in my garden which fell on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday has mostly melted and on my lunchtime walk today I noticed that a lesser proportion of the surface area of the lake at Duns Castle was frozen over today, compared with Wednesday before the storm arrived.
We are well accustomed here in Scotland to rain, snow, frost, high winds etc. during the winter months. The media always love to sensationalise winter weather stories.

I just saw a few reports on the TV news - how there were no serious injuries I do not know - there must have been squadrons of guardian angels out and about.
There is a lot of damage to buildings and some crushed cars plus a lot of people still without power, but that can be sorted out.
