The buckles are pretty popular for the ultras in the US. Ive done some 50 milers that gave hand made pottery bowls for finishers awards, that was pretty nice. I must say though that I wear one I worked hard for. In any of my photos posted here with me using my brown leather sporran and brown belt the buckle is silver and brass. It was for finishing Leadville Trail 100 miler in Leadville Colorado. To get a buckle you had to finish under 30 hours. Any medal or buckle or other finishers award is always a nice item to remember your work and pain to achieve it. Im sure in the Highland Games they give some form of award, all well deserved for the training and effort.
