Headgear color advice
Hello one and all,
I need some advice from some of more fashionably astute members of the rabble.
Being of the Irish persuasion, I prefer to wear the caubeen. I currently have an inexpensive caubeen-like cap (no, it is NOT a beret) in black. While wearing it at the games this past summer I wandered into a vendor's stall and he commented (with a burr as thick as porter) that I should be getting a green caubeen. I responded by cracking wise that if black was good enough for the IRA it was good enough for me (I have GOT to learn to quit doing that ).
So - to the question. I am going to upgrade my cap regardless, but should I stick with black or go with green, taking into account the colors of the clan tartan (see my avatar).
TIA,
Kevin

Should you get a green caubeen? If you want one.
They probably come on other colors, as well. You need to worry about wearing only the colors in your tartan. Any color will be fine.
Light colors tend to stay cooler if you're out in the sun for very long, if that's a consideration.

I wear a green caubeen, but then I don't want to look like member of the IRA. Most places only seem to sell them in those 2 colours. I don't know where you could find one in another colour? The irony is that green is the colour of the rising of 1798!

Wear any color you want, or what someone says looks good on you. I was trying to decide between a fawn or lovat green balmoral when my wife simply ordered me a maroon one as she thought I would look better in that color.
Since I don't spend the day looking at myself in a hat, but she does, I defer to her, especially with my fedoras. I try on a new one and says yes or no.

The green definitely has a more military feel, especially with a hackle... The saving grace on mine I would day is that it has a rosette, and I dont believe any of the irish regiments have one.
Mine ended up being free so I'm happy with green...

Looking at that tartan, I would say that a nice lovat green would look beautiful!!

Wear any color you like. The odds of you being mistakenly identified as a member of the IRA are quite high.

Thanks to everyone who replied, everyone made good points. But the best advice came from my wife - to paraphrase:
"For crying out loud, just get both and decide which one to wear when you need to."
I married a very smart woman !

And then, only if you were in Butte*, trying to order a pasty.
