    Ah, got it. That's because it's not a pivot, merely part of the sett and therefore such a stripe will always appear off centre to one or other pivot. Other than being part of the sett, it has nothing to do per se with the size or the repeat.

    Given the large sett , perhaps this was used for something other than kilt making ( although some kilt fabrics are purposely woven in an oversized sett ) . Perhaps this was used for a Laird's Plaid ?
