...I blackened the yellow part of this great German sweater that I found in Woodland Park Colorado and you would not believe how warm and comfortable this sweater is, hard to believe its military issue....

I can relate to that. I don't seem to remember ever being warm in the what the Army described as a jacket (including the liner.)

I can attest to that as well! I have to admit the gear is getting better though. A lot of the stuff that was issued to my unit for our deployment was actually pretty nice. Black fleece jackets, AF flyer gloves (still use them today), Super light brown t-shirts that wick like nothing I've ever seen. Pretty good stuff.
