That was a very good day, congratulations on all the great finds, and yes that jacket looks like it is a better candidate than your grandfather's the good thing is you can keep your grandfather's jacket in original condition.

Thanks for the kind words, there were two other jackets but too small, and one was even made in Scotland.
Free to a good XMarkers home a 1970 + Sportscoat, or swap for something of equal value.

Nice coat and vest, they go well with the Wallace tartan.

I can relate to that. I don't seem to remember ever being warm in the what the Army described as a jacket (including the liner.)

The waist coat looks great and the jacket looks to be a fun project. Do you plan to DIY?

I can attest to that as well! I have to admit the gear is getting better though. A lot of the stuff that was issued to my unit for our deployment was actually pretty nice. Black fleece jackets, AF flyer gloves (still use them today), Super light brown t-shirts that wick like nothing I've ever seen. Pretty good stuff.
