Part of my prize package is a free pass to the WCS dance event in Phoenix in Sept this year. We'll see if my finances will allow me to make it to that one!!! [I'm afraid that it's going to be next to impossible. Ugh... ]
OH, let me add that I've made NEW friends from Canada - my dance partner in the finals is from Ottawa. Woohoo! And I've met a couple from Nova Scotia and a group of 12 folks from Toronto! They are just so nice and friendly and the thing is I didn't go looking for Canadians specifically, out of the over 1000 dancers there - you know what I'm saying? We just kinda got drawn together by happenstance (a very happy one!).
WCS totally rocks!!! I'm in love with that dance - but it is very difficult to master.
One more thing I love about WCS is that many genres of music can be used for it --- BLUES!!!! most definitely. Pop, disco, FUNK, R&B, some Jazz, and swingy Country/Western.
If I'm not mistaken WCS is the official Dance of the State of California!

West Coast Swing is an absolutely wonderful dance.
That guy with the clipboard in the finals is a judge. Of the 5 judges, his ranking of our dance could have made the difference between 1st and 2nd. At the end of the event, the score sheet was made available to the dancers so one could see how the judges placed the dancers...
