Hey, fellas -- contrary to conventional wisdom, there actually quite a few history books out there that aren't boring. Several of the comments in this thread are breaking this history instructor's heart.

No, there's plenty of interesting history books. I had just finnished one on ancient celtic cultures and the Druids to get that strait in my mind partly because those subjects come up all the time: Peter Berresford Ellis's book The Druids.

I also read Gregory Curtis's book, The Cave Painters: Probing the Mysteries of the World's First Artists, because he gives good written descriptions of the cave paintings along with an historical overview of the archeology and people discovering them; it's the caves in Europe and the Paleolithic people.
