Perhaps this may be the time to speak and maybe it is pointing out the obvious, but in case it is not --------.
I am not at all sure what the history of "club", regimental, old School ties are, but let us say that in, roughly,a period from 1900 to 1930 were when a lot(most?) of that sort of tie was" invented" and I know not who and how the colours were put together. Often regimental colours were combined, heraldic colours, or the colour scheme of some chancellor of a university's wife's curtains. The end result is that we have the colours that we have, which may not be the colours that we may have chosen some 80 years down the line. Much like most Clan tartans in fact.
So whatever tie colour scheme we eventually have for our Xmarks tie, it will inevitably not please every one. So the danger is that we could easily be still discussing the colour scheme of "our" tie in 5 years time(about a year so far), by trying to please every body. WE WON'T! This is maybe a time for a committee of one to take on the design job.
Remember, just like Clan tartans we have to accept them for what they are and just enjoy the "belonging" and get on with life.
