Scots day - Fort Ticonderoga

Hi Fitzy...

When I first came to Canada, it was my intention to visit the fort, but time got in my way and I never did get there.
Perhaps another time. If like me, you like poetry, take a read of the poem by R.L.Stevenson called Ticonderoga.

It is said he had the inspiration for the poem whilst researching the regimental archives of the 42nd.
It is written that a young officer of the 42nd foresaw his death on the eve of the assault on fort Ticonderoga.
He was the first to fall.

It is a relatively new event on the Scottish festival circuit. Our Clan (Buchanan) was there this year and the rain did put a damper on it. But the setting is awesome and as more people go it will get better.

If you can ever get there, I'm sure you'll enjoy the visit.

It was very humbling to stand at the walls looking out over the spectacular view. The girlfriend got teary-eyed when it dawned on her that over 200 years ago, her ancestors may have stood on the very same spot where she was standing.

To be on topic..., my brother was at Ft. TI for the event and loved it!
However, way back in the fall of 1975 I was a loyalist reenactor in the Brigade of the American Revolution and we recreated Montgomery's and Arnold's March on Quebec.
As part of Montgomery's "wing" we did a show at Fort Ticonderoga and I was able to "man the walls" in full loyalist uniform and fire my Brown Bess in the direction of the "Rebels".
It was truly one of the high points of my life.
