I like a good mix for different moods.

Solid color kilts allow me to wear all those beautiful patterned shirts and vests I have left over from my days of wearing solid color pants.
Solid color kilts (Like Freedom Kilts dress model, Utilikilts Mocker, USA Kilts solids, solid Amerikilts et.al.) allow me to put together a more business kilt look for work - as opposed to a traditional tartan look.
I think if kilts are gonna make it to the office they're gonna have to stray from the traditional tartan look. Men who are concerned about wearing a tartan because they have no Scottish blood should have the same comfort option on the job.

I have one solid color, but I prefer the tartans. Just my preference. Every one is a different color. I seldom get the "wearing a skirt" comments when wearing a tartan. My favorites are the American Heritage and the MacKenzie. I have no plans on buying more solids.
Would Robert define what a "left-handed tartan" is? I'm not familiar with the term. Although I am left handed.

Tartans rock!! They are so interesting, with so much history. You can strike up great conversations about tartans.
A guy in tartan is like a guy in uniform (the ladies swoon!).
BUT, that is just my humble opinion!

And, plenty of folks have struck up a conversation with me because my solid color kilt was without tartan and they were curious why....works both ways.
A couple weeks ago when I was pumping gas a guy came over and asked me what clan my brown leather UK was for. Told him "Cattle Clan." He got it.
Had a touring Scottish couple stop me saying they knew I was kilted but wanted to know more, they'd never seen a non-tartan kilt and they liked it a lot. Was wearing my black UK Workman's.

I like my solids for knocking around it (camo fall into this catagory as well)
I wear tartan more formally or when I'm making a wee statement.

I had to vote tartan as I do not yet have a solid kilt, that is something I must rectify soon.

I am still looking for a left handed tartan (not a left handed kilt)
