Why would you want to toast it??? Cover it in tomato sauce (ketchup), put the square sausage on it, then fold the other half over the top...
Well it makes sense to me... of course if you dont know plain bread and square sausage the description might be lacking something...

I like toast and it livens up a slice of dull plain loaf but the bugger never fit unless you cut the top off. Never cared for the hard top either.

I've had:
Stovies in Scotland;
Haggis in Scotland;
Haggis, tatties, and neeps in the U.S.;
Irn Bru in the U.S.; but,
No butteries or tunnocks anywhere.

Butteries are a regional "delicacy" from my home town of Aberdeen, but they are more often called rowies or jist Aiberdeen rolls.
I am a dab haund at stovies, it's one of the few things I cook that the kids will eat without whinging. I am a member of the Stovies Appreciation Society.

all the above and way to much to mention being in scotland has its ups i guess :P i take all that stuff for granted so much so im actually a wee bit fed up with it all
