While I have and enjoy both solid and tartan, I doubt that I will get any more solid kilts. In my neck of the woods, solid kilts are not recognized as such. I have never been out in one of my solid kilts without a derogatory skirt comment. It gets old after a while. No one seems to mistake a tartan kilt for anything but a kilt. I haven't had a tartan kilt for very long but I have yet to receive a negative comment while wearing it. I still wear both but all kilts on my wish list are tartan.

On my first outing in my camo kilt, I was delighted to find that it was unequivocally recognised as a kilt, not a skirt. One friend even expressed mild surprise when I commented on that.
That said, sometimes I do indeed feel the want to be tartanned; other times not.

I first ordered a tartan kilt, but found I needed a kilt quicker than when I was going to get my kilt. So, I ordered a nice green kilt. That said, I like tartan better than solid, but I do not dislike solid, and I think the green kilt will get more use than the tartan tank.

I like my solids for knocking around it (camo fall into this catagory as well)
I wear tartan more formally or when I'm making a wee statement.

I think they both look good .Think the solids allow more choices in shirt options though. They just look more casual or could be used as casual more easy in my opinion like jeans kinda.Maybe Im wrong just my opinion.

I was about to say "Both" - I voted for both - but I'll change that and say "All".

I'll say both. I love my tartan kilts, but I really like my solid black one. I can dress it up or down easily and it goes with anything.
It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!

Currently I only have tartan kilts and only 6 of them :-( I'm not against solid kilts it's just there are so many tartans I still want to get that the solids have been put on hold for awhile.

Not quite like asking who my favorite cousin is, but similar. I don't want to wear my tartans to some environments, but it would not be inappropriate sometimes. Likewise, wearing some better solids formally aint the worst thing a fella could do!
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

I say both! It all depends on the shirt I plan to wear with it.
