Goin' to the Iowa State Fair tomorrow
Kilted, of course. Weathered MacPherson Matt Newsome box pleat, Carhart casual short sleeve shirt, and boots.
It should be interesting, and fun.

Deep Fried What??????
Oh, how I envy you! Iowa is my late wife's home state, so we never missed the state fair. Have a pint at Diamond Jack's(?), eat a sticky cinammon roll, have a porkchop-on-a-stick, sweetcorn, and don't forget to see the "butter cow". In the midst of all that, wear your kilt proudly as you eat your deep fried Twinkie while strolling through the Varied Industries Building!! What fun! I didn't have a kilt back then, but you better believe I'd wear it if I did. You'll be outnumbered by the bib overalls, but you'll make a statement, that's for sure. To quote the song from the movie "State Fair" (based on the Iowa State Fair)...."Our State Fair is a great state fair, don't miss it, don't even be late!"
Cheers!

Well it was a terrific day. Before even getting to the gate, a guy I had never seen said "I didn't get the memo".
"What memo was that"? I asked
"The one that said to wear your kilt to the fair", he replied with a smile. My kids got a big kick out of it, and we had a very nice conversation about the fair.
I had my picture taken several times. Twice by nice folks who asked, and several "clandestine" attempts, which I found most amusing.
It was a great day, and there were in fact at least three other men in kilts at the fair today, figure an average day of 100,000 people, and you get the picture about how many kilties there are in the cornpatch. Not enough !
It did lead to several very enjoyable conversations with people I did not know until today, and I was glad I went. May have to do it again next week one day.
One of the other guys I saw was wearing a black watch Sportkilt that was much nicer than I expected it to be. I may have to take another look at them.

Most of the athletes around here wear them, as they are so highly practical, wash-n-wear and all that. I have always been impressed by the quality of workmanship, and probably will get one of the St.Patrick in the future to honor the Irish side of the Celts in my family, (also my home Parish here).
