    Welsh Whisky (Chwisgi Cymreig?)

I thought of putting this in Kilt Accessories.

Anyway, does anyone know about Welsh Whisky from Penderyn Distillery? What's it like? I mean as there is the Welsh kilt (cilt) and the Welsh sporran (ysgrepan), why not a Welsh whisky (chwisgi) - but has the Penderyn Distillery been going long enough to provide a good 12 year old cask matured single malt?

I will second my Wife's recommendation. She is the Scotch aficianado. Most of them taste like Creosote to me. But she found a bottle of Penderyn and I fell in love with it.

As the only Welsh Single Malt I find it smooth with a mild, almost sweet after taste.

I have posted my passion for Penderyn in all the "What is your favorite Scotch" Threads.

I've heard of it, but forgot the name for awhile. I'll have to find a bottle now!

    Penderyn is good stuff!

It does not give its age though, simply a "release date", but it does advice us that is it madeira finished and non-chill filtered.

The website informs us that the first distillation was done on 14th September 2000 so a 12 yo malt is still unlikely at this time.

As it's only about 25 miles from me I really ought to mark it down for a visit!

No Iowa distributor, that is too bad. You all have piqued my interest. I shall have to find a source for this and give it a try.

Has some great recommendations from several online and print whisky raters and vendors, and is available at around $65US for 750ml bottle at 92 proof. To quote one reviewer, "Themost impressive thing about Penderyn is that it's onlyaged four years. The first three in Bourbon barrels andthe last year in a Madeira drum."

Sometimes I guess you have to like them young.

I looked around town at several liquor stores and could't find it, couldn't even find anybody who knew how to order it. Tried on line but seems that those places that have it can't ship it out of state for legal reasons. Atopped into a little liquor store last night, nto even looking for this stuff anymore, and lo and behold they had two bottles on the shelf. at around $70 a piece. I bought one, brought it home and quaffed a dram or two. It is actually quite good for being as young as the adverts say. It will hold its own against its neighbors in my scotch cabinet.

The second bottle is still there. If someone wants it I would be more than willing to pick it up and ship it to you at cost. Just PM me.
