Low cost off the shelf jackets

Can anyone point me to a supplier of low cost day wear jackets? I know a lot of you guys are adept at tailoring and adapt your own. That wouldn't work for me at the moment. I have a nice PC that I bought from HoS, but I don't think they offer budget daywear jackets (my ideal is a crail or plain argyll in charcoal grey, lovat, or a tan/fawn brown).

    Any pointers much appreciated.

    Thanks, Graham.

PS Heather - do put me right if GB/HoS offer these and feel free to let me have a big discount for plugging their PC!

I got my Gray Braemer from Hector Russell, it was an ex rental, if you have a tartan shop around it may well be a good option. Here is my review of mine:

I have to say this is the most versatile jacket I own

I would definitely keep an eye on Ebay. I know a lot of members here have purchased good jackets at good prices there. I got my black Barathea Argyll on there for somwhere around $125, used but in pristine condition.

Try varying your search terms as well. I find this is key to finding some great deals on Highland attire. For example, try different searches like: "daywear kilt jacket," "daywear Argyll jacket," "tweed kilt jacket," "tweed Argyll jacket," so forth and so on. You'll get some of the same results with each search, but every once in a while that magic deal only comes up under certain search terms. Some sellers on there don't always know what they have and don't refer to the items by the terms that we would use. Even a general search of the word kilt will turn up all kinds of stuff. Some kilt related like jackets and accessories, some not.

Also, check out the websites of Highland attire shops that do rentals or visit them in person like McMurdo suggested. You can find ex-rentals at great prices.

You might try Bob Chalmers at:

I bought my Argyle and waistcoat there as did several other Xmarkers. I was very pleased with the price, quality, and service. Granted, he only carries them in black, no tweeds, etc.
