I have the material, who can make the kilt?

I don't recall a thread with a consolidated list of kilt makers who will make a kilt with cloth I provide so I thought it might be useful to compile it here. Who are they?

***EDIT*** I've added the contributions of posters to this list as of 3/26/10. This list is intended to simply help you get started in your kilt maker selection. You'll have to do your own research to determine which to choose.

    Companies

    Tartan and Solid Kilts
    Waterfalls Kilts
    Scottish Tartans Museum
    Skye Highland Outfitters
    Barb Tewksbury
    Freedom Kilts
    Lady Chrystel
    Burnetts & Struth
    Bonnie Kilts
    Kathys Kilts

R-Kilts will do Solids (not sure about tartan)

I just received my 'tank' from Wally Catanach, at Waterfall Kilts. See my thread and pics: Kilt #35.

Wally did an amazing job...all hand stitched. The thing fits wonderfully.

He did order material from Dalgliesh, but he will do a kilt if you provide the material. Hope this persuades you to go with Wally! Tell him Dennis sent you!

Yup, I'll be hapy to do it. My specialty is four yard box pleated kilts, but I can also do Kingussie and knife pleated kilts, as well. Just PM me for details.

Freedom Kilts will use customer-supplied fabric.
Lady Chrystel will use customer-supplied fabric.

I think most kiltmakers will use customer-supplied, but all probably reserve the right to examine the fabric first and then decide. As you know from various posts throughout the forum, different mills produce different qualities, and each kiltmaker likely has his/her favorite to work with. Good luck with your quest!

Actually, most individual kiltmakers will make a kilt from customer-supplied cloth *provided* that the fabric is appropriate to the kind of kilt(s) that the kiltmaker makes. I am happy to make a kilt from *kilting tartan*, but I don't make kilts from other kinds of fabric or tartan that is too light for a proper kilt. Kiltmakers who make contemporary kilts will likely have a wider range of acceptable fabrics.

I remember once getting an inquiry from someone who wanted a kilt made from (if I remember correctly) the tartan seat covers of his old volkswagon van. Nope - didn't want to touch that one.....

I'm more than happy to make kilts from supplied fabrics , but- as Barb says- suitable for the purpose ( Although as some might consider I might choose to make my own kilts from all sorts of fabrics!).
But as I'm in the UK it's not going to be as appealing to Stateside members!

Robert at RKilts made my camo paintball kilt from supplied fabric. In fact if I gave him 6 yards of carbon fibre fabric he said he'd make me a kilt from that!
