That's Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart...to you...note that the good Dr must ask the Brigadier what his unbifurcated garment is...it makes great sense that the Dr's bonnet would be unjocked if he doesn't even know what a kilt is...I'd say the continuity department earned their stripes this once...although in the series on the whole the continuity department seemed to be smokin' joe in the back alley nearly all the time...
"Before two notes of the theme were played, Colin knew it was Patrick Mor MacCrimmon's 'Lament for the Children'...Sad seven times--ah, Patrick MacCrimmon of the seven dead sons....'It's a hard tune, that', said old Angus. Hard on the piper; hard on them all; hard on the world." Butcher's Broom, by Neil Gunn, 1994 Walker & Co, NY, p. 397-8.

That, I think, is one of the draws.
And, I just wanted to use unjocked in a sentence.

That is the beauty of a show about time travel, you don't need continuity. lol.

I am a little puzzled as to why the Doctor would ask the Brigadier what he was wearing given that, in a previous incarnation, he had Jamie as a kilted companion!

Good try Jamie but this Jamie was a McCrimmon played by Fraser Hines.
