We don't hear enough about the war in the east. My own father spent most of the war behind the Japanese lines. As much as I asked, he would say very little. What I did hear was only gleaned from conversations he had with other who also served there.

Excellent story of heroism!

The temites remind of the British POWs in Colditz Castle. They developed a concoction that would cause dry rot, and smeared it on many of the heavy wooden beams that hold the castle buildings up. I wonder if the place will suddenly collapse one of these years...!

A very moving story, and makes me even more proud to belong to the same Clan as him.

My Grandfather NEVER talked about his days in the war, and it was only through reading Spike Milligan's 7-part 'trilogy' that I discovered Grandad had served with Spike, a personal hero of mine.
