Re: Cinnamon - Saffron Garter Ties
Those saffron garters look good with all three kilts. But, I agree, they look best with the Ireland National. That shamrock green would be a good flash color for the two monochromes.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Nicely done, Ron!
That's a great color. I think it'd also tone well with some of the more orange shades, as in Antarctica or Dutch Friendship.
If you didn't have the yellow already, it could work for some cases when I'd wear them. OR a more gold shade of yellow, like my muted Wallace.

Re: Cinnamon - Saffron Garter Ties
Good idea! I'll check them too. I do have yellow garter ties. House of Labhran also has some "mustard" garter ties. They didn't seem to work for any of my tartans...but they're there...along with the pink....go figure pink....??

I think you should get the pink ones, Ron.
* Edit: Acctually, I'm not sure which tartan they would go with, but you have so many. Just a thought.

Re: Cinnamon - Saffron Garter Ties
I've been wondering about this with my band's MacDairmid tartan, which is largely the same color scheme as the Irish national.
We'd be going the standard grosgrain flash route (though those garters are much more wonderful!), and I've tried straight-on orange with the lovat green hose; too bright.
So, I was wondering indeed about saffron, but was worried it would come out more brownish-orange like the traditional saffron kilt. Then I wondered about ancient red, as it is a darker 'reddish' orange, but I think this is too red still.
Needless to say, if this Goldilocks could but get this cinnamon-saffron color in grosgrain!

Re: Cinnamon - Saffron Garter Ties
The traditional ties are sooo much more comfy than elastic - why not just go with them?

Re: Cinnamon - Saffron Garter Ties
For personal use, I've been won over and the next time I have my eyes on a few garter ties to expand my horizons.
Pipe bands are generally either flashes or spats as far as I'm aware though, alas.

Re: Cinnamon - Saffron Garter Ties
Those new garter ties are indeed a good match for the Ireland's National.
I recently tried garters out for the first time and I agree that they are definitely more comfortable than flashes. Mine are from the eBay shop of Country Naturals, were listed as "shooting sock garters," and came out to $19.35 including shipping from the UK to Hong Kong. Here is their website:

Re: Cinnamon - Saffron Garter Ties
Good link, thanks. I do wish they'd show colors....just what is "deep pink"..."sage"..."elephant's breath blue?"
Vendors seem to love cute names for colors but then fail to show us a swatch so we have to guess.
Like HoC uses the name "Bison" for one of their yarn colors. I own two pair of their "Bison" hose. But I also sleep between two buffalo robes. The color of their "Bison" yarn is nothing like the hair on my American Bison (buffalo) robes. But STM shows the color swatches so I knew I wanted that color - regardless of the cutesy name for the yarn color.
There should be a special place in Hell for vendors who endeavor to sell sporrans without giving the size of the sporran, shoes without noting a width, products with cute color names without showing a color swatch, and claims that one size fits all or most...it doesn't.
Grumble....
