We have an agreement: I can wear a kilt on non-Caribbean cruises unless I absolutely know that someone else on the cruise will be wearing a kilt. So its Drac's fault that I can't wear a kilt on this upcoming cruise because he bailed on me!
On the other hand, I'll be doing Canada in September so all is not lost.

Fine throw me under the bus (or ship in this case).
I do have to send my good kilt out this week for cleaning and adjustments so I will have it back in time for the cruise.

But she didn't say instead, so you still get the choice. There must be more than one posh do.

On this particular cruise there is only one and its a "semi-formal" night.
On one of my last cruises I was going to take both a tux and a kilt, but between the two they filled up an entire suitcase and I didn't want to have to lug it all around. So my personal rule is either a kilt (with Argyll) or a tux.
If I ever get to go on a 14 day or more cruise, I'll definitely take both as there will be at least 3, and probably more, dress up nights.
On Cunard you can dress up every evening if you want.

Do ya'll have all these 'agreements' in some sort of file you refer to, like Sheldon and Amy's relationship agreement on 'The Big Bang Theory'? Or does she just tell you what to do on a case by case basis ?

Here's an unrelated question:
I was watching "The Love Boat" last week and as the ship would embark on its voyage of adventure and romance the passengers would stand at the rails and throw streamers and confetti at the poor saps standing on the boarding platform. Is this still done? Was it ever done? It seems like it would make a lot of mess for somebody to have to clean up.

I'm sure there is some precedent for that, but I think these days the passengers are usually in the ship's theaters getting the safety briefing as the ship departs. The first time I went on a cruise, I went from the briefing to finding our cabin, then went for lunch. I realized I'd been there for half a day without going 'outside'.

That was done back in the heyday of transatlantic and transpacific passenger ships to travel from one place to another, as opposed to today's modern cruises which are vacations.
And, I haven't seen the streamers as its a big mess, both ashore and in the water. In today's "Green" environment, such doings are not so popular as they once were.
Most cruise lines still have sail-away parties that can vary from cruise line to cruise line. On Disney we had a really great time but on Celebrity it is more sedate and laid back. Still fun and I enjoy them but two totally different approaches.

You know how it is - if it's my "agreement" its negotiable, if its her's its usually written in stone.
Actually, we have discussed this issue several times and "she who must be obeyed" prefers that I leave the kilt at home when we go to the Caribbean, but I can take it when we go to Canada and Europe. Canada is coming up in the fall and we hope to do Europe next year, so I'm coming out ahead!
She likes me in a kilt though so all is not lost.
