Thanks a lot for all the feedback guys - and I have to agree that I feel a sporran makes tartan kilt look proper / but for the sake of partying down with The Real MacKenzies I'll go with out it - plus i have this real nice biker jacket ( like the Ramones) that has a wackload of pockets that I'll be wearing should go nicely with it. again thanks a lot for all the help guys

I don't own a day sporran/casual sporran. I would like a nicer one a la wyvern leather. Until I save up, I either go without or I wear a "fanny pack."
That's for my Black Stewart SWK and my MacGregor SportKilt.

Third, and again this is my thoughts on it, but without a sporran it looks too much like a skirt to me.
I second that.

Unless you are competing at Highland Games where it would be in the way I think a sporran should always be worn with a tartan kilt some of the modern kilt like things have pockets so do not need a sporran

I know-all the other kids are doing it.
But if all the other kids were jumping off bridges, would you jum off a bridge? Or play in the traffic? Or run with a pair of scissors in your hand? ![Evil or Very Mad](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_evil.gif)
I think not! And it would be remiss of us to let you go out without a sporran, or at least a fanny pack worn in the front.
All the kids are doing it. You know you want to. But just say no!
You'll thank me for this some day.

Another real useful function of the sporran is that when the wind is gusting (as it is wont to do here in the Windy City), the sporran helps protect one's 'bits and pieces' from unexpected exposure.

Personally, I cannot wear a kilt without a sporran. To me it just doesn't look right and then I don't FEEL right (I guess it's all about "feelings"!!). Anyway, that's my twa shillings for what it's worth.

Would suggest that if a person "needs" a sporran to insure modesty when he sits then he's not wearing a well made kilt - underaprons do the job thank you, or if the kilt is tight on you, a "chop" to the apron center.
If you think a sporran will hold an apron down in the wind...well, good luck....kilting in the wind takes some practice, in the wind...
Often wear sporrans and often don't wear sporrans. I vote for choice and FREEDOM.
