Drinking Panache
...for some unknown and totally unrelated reason, I was searching the internet for Cold Duck...the "wine" Cold Duck...remember that?
Anyway...I came across this:

...sounds suspiciously familiar, n'est ce pas?
Enjoy, Jamie!

We used to drink beer and orange Fanta in China. Straight beer was too much alcohol in the heat. Orange juice, lemonade, and other sodas were sometimes substituted.

The closest thing that I can think of to that concoction that has proven palatable is the Leinenkugle Berry Weiss beer. I first encountered that particular brew at a nice minor league ball park in one of our suburbs where Leinie is one of the sponsors and is served cold and in large cups for a reasonable price (remember that a beer at US Cellular Field, home of the White Sox, is now $6.25). Anyway, the Berry Weiss and it's Lemon Weiss brother are great for a hot summer day. When i first tasted it I immediately said "Shandy!" and all of the folks around me had no idea what I was talking about.
Apparently, this Panache thing requires that genuine French bottle lemonade.

Are you sure you're not omitting an ingredient, Jamie, 'cause I think you are.

But that wouldn't be a Panache then, that would be something far more wonderful!
Speaking of which, I think I shall go fix one now.
Cheers

This is what we would get in Germany called a Radler. We've made our own time to time when we didn't want to be quite so full as a beer would make us. It's very nice after a long walk(volksmarch) to replace the body fluids. One of these then a nice heffeweisen, Mmmmm.

That makes sense, aren't some of the heffeweisens normally served with a slice of lemon or orange?
Cheers

In Thailand a common drink was a Heinkein and sprite mixed. Actually tasted quite good, very crisp and refreshing in the heat. I don't think it was called anything in particular though.
For those interested, that Berry Wiesse beer can be had at Sam's Club in a sampler case with three other flavors.

Panaché (pronounce panashay) is served in every french bar and bistrot.
It's basically beer topped (panache - on the head, pronounce panash) with something very similar to 7UP.
Refreshing it is, but too sweet for me.
