American National Clothing?
The question keeps coming to mind lately, is there an American national costume, or clothing that is just American? It seems like American clothing is all adapted from, or comes from somewhere else in the world. I keep trying to think of something, clothing wise, that is actually American, and I can't think of anything.
What am I overlooking here?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

We are different than most countries. We have people from every continent on the planet. Those who came here were obviously from europe. The "national" or indigenous dress is native american indian. American cowboy wear would be the next closest "American wear" I think we have. Certainly that's what most of the world would say is the true American wear.

Sneakers baseball hat, T-shirt and jeans. That screams " American" worldwide.

I live in Kansas, so I'd say overalls and a banjo.

Blue Jeans. That was a heavy western clothing commodity during the cold war in many eastern block nations. or was it parachute pants ?

Buckskins and a coonskin cap? Western/cowboy wear? Denim jeans, checkered shirt, rope belt and straw hat (stereotypical Appalachian)? Actually, I think Bigkahuna nailed it.
After meeting Scouts from several other countries at the World Scout Jamboree, his description appears to be the 'sterotypical American/US Citizen' they would describe to us. (I don't want to make this political, just making the observation, but some Central and Southern American citizens don't like to be lumped under the 'American' label when US citizens are being discussed. After all, they are Americans too.)
