    I gave in

...and bought medium-dark gray hose to wear with my X Marks tartan, while I was at the Enumclaw Games.

...along with my friend Kathy and athlete Jon Thorn, whom we REALLY need to get into a kilt.

    So. Hm.

Not that I won't be wearing white hose when I feel like it, and I still love my natural wool hand-knitted hose from the inimitable String, but I DO like these. I cannot stand black hose on myself, personally, but I like the gray.

Just because you happen to like white hose doesn't mean you can't like another color.

The link is not working for me right now. I do have several pair of hose in a myriad of colours one does not have to be tied to white.

Alan, did you get them from The Tartan Thistle? Bought a replacement pair of off-white hose from them, and a pair of charcoal. Both the Piper's kilt hose, like what I have in bottle green, navy, and black...

Actually I had a bad experience with the Tartan Thistle, and I won't shop there again, though really, it's not Maureens fault. She just employees at least one bozo.

    I got these at MacKinnons.

I actually have two pairs of grey socks. I love the way they look with my Albannach, saffron, Nightstalker and black Amerikilt. Those fit the X Marks tartan really well! I love the way it looks. There are some colors that just really bring out the tartan, and those do wonders.

    They do...

Be aware that the kilts they sell are the infamous Gold Brothers items. Some people will shudder at the prospect of owning one, at all. Personally, I have a 5-yard Gold Brothers kilt in the Scottish National Tartan that I bought from MacKinnons several years ago, that I throw in a lot. It's a reasonable kilt and I like it fine but I don't care if I trash it. IN fact I'm wearing it at work as I write this, since our weekly workout is Thursdays 5:00 - 7:30 PM.

MacKinnons sells 8 yard versions for $90 in the booth at the Games, the same kilt markets for $150 online.. They're not custom-made wool kilts. You MUST understand that. Also, the girls at the booth will tell you that they're polyester-viscose, and I know this much...they're sure not the Marton Mills polyester-viscose material! The kilts are quite stiff, almost scratchy at first but they soften up considerably with a washing or two.

I like mine just fine and I might spring for an 8 yard Scottish National someday, since I really like the tartan, and I grok what I'm getting for my money. The people running the booth and the company seem on the up-and-up to me, I like them. Just *understand* what you are getting.

The hose I bought from them were Woolrich, BTW.
