Kind of what I had in mind, only with a different symbol that might be more "readable" in tiny form on a tie. If we're going to have a distinctive piece of apparel, it should be recognizably distinctive instead of needing constant explanation. It should also be relatively muted, not loud. If a tie clashes with everything in my closet, it doesn't mean I can wear it with anything.

I agree that it should be recognizable and distinctive, but there's only so much you can do on a necktie! And in reality, I figure it only really needs to be recognizable to other Xmarkers?
I think a tie based on the Xmarks tartan colors wouldn't be too loud or clash with too much.
On the logo tie, I'm thinking of something like the clan logo ties here; http://www.scotweb.co.uk/products/cl...otif-neck-tie/ As I mentioned, I have a similar tie in dark blue with silver-grey logos woven into it, the logos are 5/8ths of an inch, and are quite detailed, readable and recognizable to anyone who knows it. An Xmarks clan badge that size wouldn't actually say "X MARKS THE SCOT .COM" on it, but should be just as readable, certainly to one who knows it.
